League of Women Voters plans political forum for Ocean Springs candidates

OCEAN SPRINGS -- The nonpartisan Mississippi Gulf Coast League of Women Voters plans a forum for Ocean Springs city government candidates Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The forum will be at the Mary C. O'Keefe Cultural Center at 1600 Government St.

Mayor Connie Moran and challenger John McKay will speak later in the forum. Alderman candidates in two races will speak first.

The moderator for the forum will be Sun Herald Executive Editor Stan Tiner. He will be assisted by league members Milton Grishman, a Biloxi businessman, and Princella Graham, a local artist and health-care professional, posing questions.

The first part will be Ward 2 alderman Democratic candidate Julia Weaver and a written statement by incumbent Republican Matt McDonnell. Ward 6 incumbent James Hagan and challenger Mike Impey II, both Republicans, who'll face each other in the May 21 runoff, also will speak.

Each will have two minutes to introduce themselves, time to answer questions and one minute to close.

Moran and McKay will have three minutes to open, answer questions and two minutes to close.

"The event will last no more than 90 minutes," said the league's Karlyn Stephens.

Attendees as well as candidates may submit questions.

The final question selection will be done by the LWV Planning Committee.
